GitHub Copilot Pro and Pro+ move to AI Credits flex billing on June 1
GitHub Copilot Pro and Pro+ will move to AI Credits-based flex billing on June 1, 2026 — preserving the $10/month Pro and $39/month Pro+ price points but switching from unlimited usage to credit pools that draw against a monthly allocation.
The change is significant for power users. Under the existing unlimited model, Copilot Pro was effectively the cheapest agentic coding tool at any usage level. Under the credit-pool model, heavy users will likely exceed the included allocation and incur overage charges.
The strategic motivation is clear: agentic Copilot usage has grown into long-horizon multi-file tasks that consume substantially more inference than the simple completions the original price was set against. Credit-pool billing aligns Copilot's economics with the actual cost-of-goods. Whether the new pricing remains the cheapest tier in the market depends on the allocation generosity — to be disclosed at the June 1 transition.
