Gemini Spark personal agent enters beta — Google launches 24/7 task-running agent across connected apps

Google launched Gemini Spark, a 24/7 personal AI agent that can reason across connected Google apps, into beta this week alongside Gemini 3.5 Flash. Initial availability is restricted to Google AI Ultra subscribers and a small trusted-tester cohort. Spark joins OpenAI's Operator and Anthropic's Claude Cowork in the same-week launch cadence — the personal-agent tier is now a saturated market.

Spark's differentiation is the cross-app reasoning surface. Where Operator runs browser tasks and Claude Cowork runs enterprise workflows, Spark explicitly indexes the user's Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Photos, and YouTube history into a single planning context. The Q3 2026 watch is whether Spark produces a step-change in cross-application task completion rate, or whether the integration depth is mostly a privacy story.

The architectural pattern matters because it confirms the multi-agent orchestration trend has hit consumer products. The IDE tier moved first; consumer apps follow within weeks. The 2026 unified-multimodal-plus-personal-agent pairing (Gemini Omni + Spark, GPT-Omni + Operator, Mythos + Cowork) becomes the consumer-tier reference architecture by year-end.
