Agility Robotics Digit reaches 7+ commercial units at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada — only Western humanoid in paid commercial operation

Agility Robotics' Digit humanoid has reached 7+ commercial units at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada supporting RAV4 logistics, under a Robots-as-a-Service agreement signed February 2026. As of May 2026 Digit is the only Western humanoid that has transitioned from pilot to paid commercial operations — a distinction that matters more than total unit count.

The pilot-to-paid distinction is the metric that matters. Through 2024-2025 every major humanoid vendor had pilot deployments — robots running in customer facilities under demonstration agreements where the vendor essentially paid the customer to provide the operating environment. Agility-Toyota is structurally different: Toyota pays Agility on a per-robot-per-month basis under a Robots-as-a-Service contract. The cash flow direction is the validation. Pilot deployments don't prove a product is commercial-viable; paid operations do.

The 7-unit count is small enough to scrutinize. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada is a single facility (Cambridge, Ontario) handling RAV4 production. Each Digit unit is performing a specific logistics task (tote-moving between assembly stations). The expansion path is to other Toyota plants (potentially 12+ globally, with Tahara and Kentucky as the next likely sites) and to other RaaS customers (Agility's announced pipeline includes GXO Logistics, Ford, and Mercedes-Benz). If Agility can convert even half its announced pipeline to similar RaaS contracts in the next 18 months, the company crosses into a different competitive position — the only Western humanoid with multiple paid commercial operations rather than a single proof-of-concept.
