AMD MI300X/MI325X reach 5-7% AI accelerator market share — Microsoft and Meta are the largest deployers, ROCm software stack maturity gates wider adoption

AMD's MI300X and MI325X accelerators have reached 5-7% of the AI accelerator market by revenue in 2026, with Microsoft and Meta as the largest deployers. The chip hardware competes credibly with NVIDIA H100 on raw throughput; the constraint on broader adoption is the ROCm software-stack maturity relative to CUDA's two-decade head start.

The Microsoft and Meta deployment positioning is what makes AMD's share-growth credible rather than nominal. Both companies have the engineering depth to evaluate AMD vs NVIDIA on real workloads at scale, the procurement leverage to negotiate favorable AMD pricing, and the long-term strategic interest in not being single-sourced on NVIDIA. When Microsoft Azure runs Meta Llama 4 inference on MI300X hardware (which is publicly documented), it's an explicit vote that AMD's accelerator-plus-software stack is production-ready for at least this workload class.

The ROCm maturity gap is the real story for the next 12 months. CUDA has 20 years of compiler optimization, library coverage (cuDNN, cuBLAS, cuSPARSE), and developer tooling. ROCm is younger, less complete in library coverage, and has a smaller developer ecosystem. AMD's path to 10-15% market share requires closing that gap — not at parity (which is multi-year work) but at sufficiency for the workloads that matter most. Llama inference is one of them. Training larger models still tilts toward NVIDIA. The 2027-2028 share trajectory depends on whether AMD ships MI400X with closed-the-gap ROCm, and on whether Meta and Microsoft expand their AMD deployments from inference into training. If yes, AMD reaches double-digit market share within 18 months. If not, AMD plateaus at the current 5-7% range.
