Figure 03 hits 1-robot-per-hour production rate at BotQ factory — BMW Spartanburg deployment expands as humanoid commercial cadence enters volume phase

Figure AI confirmed in early June that its BotQ factory has reached a production rate of one Figure 03 robot per hour, with the latest units shipping to BMW's Spartanburg plant. The 1-per-hour cadence puts Figure firmly ahead of Tesla Optimus (low-volume summer 2026 target) and Boston Dynamics Atlas (2026 units committed to Hyundai+DeepMind, none for outside customers).

The cadence number is the substantive update. "1 robot per hour" translates to ~8,000 units per year assuming continuous operation — well below Tesla's announced multi-thousand-unit Optimus targets but ahead of every other humanoid program shipping commercial units in 2026. Figure 03's BMW Spartanburg deployment expands the auto-OEM beachhead that Figure 02 established and gives the company a second-year production reference customer at scale.

The category structure is solidifying. Three credible humanoid programs are now in actual production with paying customers: Figure (auto OEM, 1/hour), Atlas (Hyundai+DeepMind, all 2026 units committed), Optimus (Tesla-internal first, summer 2026). Chinese programs (Unitree, UBTech, XPENG) are shipping at higher volumes but mostly in domestic factories. The differentiation is no longer about whether humanoid robots will ship — it's about which cognitive architecture wins. Cadence + NVIDIA's Isaac/Cosmos expansion and the foundation-model-on-robot programs (Gemini Robotics, Helix) are the architecture race.
