Google ships Gemini 3.1 Pro for complex problem-solving as Gemini 3.5 Pro slips to late June — Sundar Pichai tells customers "wait another month"
Google enabled Gemini 3.5 Flash by default in Gemini Enterprise on June 8 and is rolling out 3.1 Pro — a smarter, complex-problem-solving variant — for tasks where a simple answer isn't enough. Sundar Pichai told audiences at Google I/O that Gemini 3.5 Pro's June general availability slips by roughly a month, with the 2M-token-context flagship landing in late June.
The intermediate-release pattern is the substantive piece. Google is incrementing on the Gemini 3.x family — Flash, 3.1 Pro, then 3.5 Pro — rather than waiting for a single flagship cut. That gets capability into enterprise customers' procurement decisions one feature at a time while the larger 2M-context model finishes evaluation. For Gemini Enterprise customers already deployed against 3.5 Flash defaults, the upgrade path is incremental and self-serve rather than a forklift cutover.
The slip matters more than the rollout. Pichai's "wait another month" framing means Gemini 3.5 Pro lands in the same procurement window as Anthropic's Mythos 5 trusted-access launch and just after the August 2 EU AI Act enforcement deadline. Google is engineering Pro's release for the second-half enterprise-budget window, which is also the calendar quarter when OpenAI is signaling GPT-5.6 lands and Anthropic's catalog segmentation matures. Three flagship-class models will land within a 6-8 week band — the densest frontier-release cadence the market has seen.
