Google confirms Gemini 3.5 Pro lands this month — Pichai's "give us until next month" timeline locks in for late-June rollout with 2M-token context

Google CEO Sundar Pichai's prior commitment that Gemini 3.5 Pro would ship "next month" — given in late May — is now confirmed for a late-June launch window. The model is the Pro-tier successor to Gemini 3.5 Flash (which went GA May 19 at $1.50/$9 per million tokens) and is positioned against GPT-5.6 and Claude Opus 4.8 on intelligence-index leaderboards.

The substantive read is Google's cadence catching the frontier. Gemini 3.5 Flash at $1.50/$9 already undercuts GPT-5.5 standard pricing at the same input rate; Pro pricing will likely sit a half-step above. The Apple WWDC-2026 deal — Apple shipping Gemini-powered Siri — gives Google distribution into iOS that no other lab has, making Pro's reception on Apple Intelligence one of the watch metrics for the launch window.

The leaderboard frame is that this is now a four-lab race at the intelligence frontier: OpenAI's GPT-5.5/5.6, Anthropic's Opus 4.8 and Fable 5, Google's Gemini 3.5 Pro, and Meta's Muse Spark. On Artificial Analysis' Intelligence Index, Opus 4.8 holds 61 and Muse Spark scores 52; Pro is the bet that closes Google's gap to Anthropic at the top end. OpenAI's same-day event means the competitive narrative gets contested in real time.
