Shield AI raises $1.5bn at a $12.7bn valuation, up 140% in a year

The Series G was led by Advent International and co-led by JPMorganChase's Security and Resiliency Initiative, with Blackstone funds adding $500 million of preferred equity and a $250 million delayed-draw facility. The valuation rose 140% in twelve months, shortly after Hivemind was selected by the US Air Force as a mission autonomy provider for Collaborative Combat Aircraft.

The sequencing matters more than the multiple. A programme selection converts a defence company's revenue from speculative to scheduled, and that conversion is what a 140% repricing is actually measuring. It is not enthusiasm about autonomy — it is a programme of record appearing on a forecast.

The capital structure is worth reading too. A venture round led by a private equity house, co-led by a bank's security initiative, with preferred equity and a delayed-draw facility on top, is not a venture financing in the traditional sense. It is corporate finance, and it signals a company preparing for a scale of delivery obligation that venture money alone does not fund.

Hivemind flies F-16s, jet-powered UAVs and helicopters. Whatever one thinks about the sector, the technical claim being financed here is autonomy in systems where a mistake is not a support ticket.
