Accenture, Vodafone and SAP pilot humanoids in a live warehouse in Duisburg
The robots were deployed alongside existing warehouse systems at Vodafone Procure & Connect rather than in an isolated cell. Three enterprise names on one pilot is a different signal from a robotics company demonstrating its own hardware.
Alongside existing systems is the load-bearing phrase. A humanoid in a cleared cell proves the robot works; a humanoid inside a running warehouse has to cope with the racking, the WMS, the traffic and the people that were already there.
The consortium shape says what the bottleneck is. A systems integrator, an end customer and an enterprise software vendor on the same pilot means the hard part is not the robot — it is connecting it to the inventory system and the process around it.
It is still a pilot, and the sector's own analysis is consistent that pilot-to-fleet is where most humanoid programmes end. The units that have actually shipped are the better number to watch.
