The mechanism matters more than the milestone. Compute cost fell from 71 cents per revenue dollar in Q1 to 56 cents in Q2, and that 15-cent move is the margin turn. This is not a price increase — Anthropic cancelled a price increase this month. It is the same revenue dollar costing less to serve.
Which explains a set of decisions that looked expensive in isolation. Committing capacity across four providers years in advance, and reportedly paying a large premium for a team that improves chip utilisation, both make sense if cost per served token is the variable that decides whether the business works. On these projections it is, and it is moving in the right direction fast.
