Salesforce turned its agent telemetry into an industry index

The 2026 Agentic Enterprise Index is built from anonymised Agentforce data: 57% of organisations running multi-step agent workflows, 16% spanning multiple teams, 81% planning to expand. The methodology is the thing to read carefully.

Salesforce has published an Agentic Enterprise Index drawn from anonymised data across its Agentforce platform. The headline figures: enterprise agent deployment up threefold, 57% of organisations running multi-step agent workflows, 16% progressed to cross-functional agents spanning teams, 81% planning to expand into more complex use cases this year.

Read the denominator before the numbers. This is telemetry from customers of one agent platform, not a survey of enterprises generally. The 57% figure describes companies that already bought an agent product and then used it — a population selected for exactly the behaviour being measured.

That does not make it useless. Platform telemetry beats self-reported surveys on one axis that matters enormously: it counts what was deployed rather than what someone said they intended to deploy. The gap between those two has been the defining measurement problem in enterprise AI for three years.

The genuinely informative number is 16%. Cross-functional agents spanning multiple teams is the hard part — it requires the permissions, the data access, and the organisational agreement that single-team automation does not. That only one in six has reached it, among a population already committed, is the realistic picture of where this actually is.

Vendors publishing indices from their own product data is becoming a genre. It is better than nothing and worse than independent measurement, and the correct posture is to read the direction and discount the level.
