Eleven models in twenty days is faster than anyone can test them
Five or more providers shipped eleven-plus models in twenty days this month, and anonymous frontier models are reaching production adoption within hours. Release velocity has passed the point where independent evaluation can keep up, which makes vendor numbers the only numbers.
Trackers counted more than eleven model releases in twenty days this month across at least five providers — Gemini 3.7 Flash, Qwen3.8-Max and Qwen3.8-27B, DeepSeek V4-Pro reaching general availability, Seed 2.1 Turbo, Nemotron 3.5 Lightning, Muse Glimmer 30B and others. Anonymous frontier models are reported reaching production adoption within hours of appearing.
The bottleneck moved
For three years the constraint on knowing whether a model was good was the model. Now it is the evaluation. Independent benchmarking takes days to weeks per model when done carefully — harness setup, contamination checks, multiple runs, error analysis. At eleven releases in twenty days the queue never empties, and the backlog is permanent rather than temporary.
The consequence is not that evaluations stop. It is that the only numbers available at decision time are the ones the vendor published, which is a return to exactly the condition independent benchmarking existed to fix.
Adoption within hours is the harder problem
A model reaching production within hours of release has been evaluated by nobody, including often its adopter. That is a rational choice for a cheap task with a human reviewing output. It is not a rational choice anywhere a wrong answer is expensive, and the distinction is being made by whoever happens to be wiring the integration.
What survives the pace
Evaluation you run yourself, on your own distribution, that takes an afternoon. Not because it is better than a rigorous public benchmark, but because it is the only kind that can be repeated every time something new appears — and something new now appears roughly every other day.
