Anthropic raises usage limits and signs a compute deal with SpaceX
Higher limits for Claude arrive alongside a compute arrangement with SpaceX. Capacity agreements are now being signed with counterparties that were not in the data centre business a year ago.
The pairing is the tell. Usage limits are a direct function of available capacity, and announcing both together says the limits moved because the capacity did.
What is genuinely new is the counterparty. Compute supply used to mean a hyperscaler or a colocation operator. A launch company appearing on that list reflects how far the definition of infrastructure has stretched — power, land, cooling and capital are the inputs, and plenty of firms outside computing have all four.
For customers the practical effect is mundane and welcome: rate limits doubling on the plans that run agents. Long-horizon agentic work is capacity-hungry in a way chat never was, and the ceiling has been the binding constraint on what teams could actually deploy.
