Duration is the new thing here
Eleven months covers maintenance, shift patterns, model changeovers and ordinary degradation. A two-week demonstration hides all four. This is the first humanoid data with enough time behind it to be worth arguing about.
Two robots. Roughly 270 components a day between them. Real work, and a rounding error.
The correct reading is that the technology functions in production. Not that it is displacing a line, and not that it is close to.
The number nobody quotes
542,000 industrial robots installed in a year, at a record $16.7bn. That is the ecosystem humanoids are joining, and it is why automotive is the beachhead.
A humanoid entering a plant does not invent safety standards, maintenance practice or integration tooling. Those exist because half a million machines a year already demand them. The humanoid is arriving into infrastructure conventional robotics paid for.
The framing to resist
Labour shortage is the industry's preferred explanation because it makes automation sound inevitable rather than discretionary. Installation growth tracks capital cycles and rates at least as closely. Be suspicious of a trend report that explains a capital-goods number with a demographic one.
What this asks of you
Watch unit counts outside automotive, and watch three-year service commitments rather than pilots. Those are the two numbers that separate a category from a demo reel — and the funding is arriving well ahead of both.
Vendor-reported production figures from a named plant over eleven months are a large improvement on what this field ran on for three years. They are still vendor-reported.
